i went christmas shopping after work today and, i must confess somewhat sheepishly that, not all of the things i bought were for other people. i've been meaning to pick up a respectable borderline-audiophile set of headphones. terrible luck with them in the past, let me tell you. two christmases ago i asked for a good set of cans. my mom got me some sony noise-cancelling gentlemen and, after about a month, one of the earpieces shorted out. what. the. fuck? anyway, to make a long story a little bit less so, i grabbed a pair from radioshack today for 30 dollars. let the fun begin! here're a couple of albums that i've been looking forward to listening to specifically on my new headset:
"Unknown Pleasures" - Joy Division
"No Flashlight" - Mount Eerie
"Dandelion Gum" - Black Moth Super Rainbow
"Person Pitch" - Panda Bear
"Boxer" - The National
happy holidays.

Joe, let me know how it goes with those headphones, and what kind they are. I've been meaning to get a good pair of headphones that:
a) are comfortable
b) sound really really good
c) will last
d) don't look ridiculous
ps.
unknown pleasures = boner city.
Have you seen Control yet? it's really great.
Person Pitch is terribly good on headphones. I got a cheap pair of JVC HA-RX500 cans (20 bucks, but I picked them up at a Navy PX store) that are pretty reasonable when it comes to sound quality. It seemed like they were a bit low-end heavy at first, but that's possibly because I'd been listening to music through those unbearably shitty ipod earbuds for so long.
I can't think of the brand, but I received a pair of headphones as a gift and within a month the left channel went out. When I picked up a replacement, by the same brand, the left channel again went out within a week. I'll try to find out who made them so you can avoid them.
yeah, that's what happened to mine too. i was furious. headphones aren't cheap. you think they'd make a quality set.
anyway, joe, my assessment based on your 4-point criteria thus far is that they are reasonably comfortable, sound pretty fantastic (at least vastly better than those fucking ear buds...never again), and only look slightly ridiculous on me. i already look slightly ridiculous and i think they kind of neutralize said ridiculousness so i mustn't complain. we'll see if they last. they were 30 bucks, Radio Shack brand. they had some 50 dollar Koss headphones that looked pretty swell but it was a bit out of my price range.
i haven't seen Control yet. as far as i know, it only ran for a couple of weeks in Chicago and has since disappeared.
Finally, can we start using the word 'cunty' more often as an adjective? Thanks, Eat a Muffin for your tasteful (bah!) scrabbling.
