dude, maybe punk rock ages better than the 90s "innocent mistakes" but that verve pipe record...that is a piece of 90s alt-rock nostalgia that you'll just have to pry lose from my cold dead soul. to me, they're an important document of my coming of age. first of all, they were from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were my first encounter with music fame in a more tangible way. They made me want to be in a band all the more.
They were more than a band, too. They were a community. Liking The Verve Pipe was like cheering for the Pistons or shopping at Darling Ace Hardware (teehee). There just weren't enough good reasons not to. It was rooting for the local guy, supporting local artists. Plus, I was from somewhere. I was from the same place(kinda) as all that amazing music that happened in Detroit before I was born. Even though I wasn't born until '83, I was still somehow linked to it...if only because of my devout appreciation for it.

Well done, Milky Joe. All people think about on that record is "The Freshman," and I, not filled with the geographical nostalgia, the coming of age, you associate with the whole record, I admit that I hate that song, from first hearing to this day still. HOWEVER, I remember that my local alternative station used to play a couple of other tracks from that same album that were outstanding, however they are only vague memories to me right now. Though I do know they used to get full on sweaty air guitar treatment by pubescent chuckchuck every time they came on while I was in my room. Thanks for the memory!
pubescent chuckchuck gives me boners
