my exponential lame-ness-itude rolls on.

This is my buttery response to buttery dave. Buttery!

Since all I know currently/all I would be able to recommend that hasn't been presented already is classic rock that shall be it. Sigh. Living life as a 48 year old man talking 'bout that Silver Bullet Band concert back in '79 at the MECCA Arena downtown Milwaukee.

In the sort of CSNY rootsy-ish vien would be the first two albums by the band called The Band, entitled Music From Big Pink and The Band. Music From Big Pink, the first one, has some really good individual songs, but they don't all fit together so well overall. The self-titled second album is a really good cohesive whole and is solid individully from top to bottom. And there are songs about the Civil War from the perspective of the Confederacy(!) and songs about farmers and unions. Who doesn't love Americana written and performed by four transplanted Canadians and one dignified and defiant southern gentleman?!?!? Plus, in some older form The Band, was Bob Dylan's backing touring band. And alphabetically, they shelve nicely next to Band of Horses albums. Because we all alphabetize our music, right? Right?

Speaking of Dylan, you should own Blonde on Blonde in every available form, from mono to stereo, from analog to digital. There is no explanation needed. Because pretty much everyone has already heard this one. Nice recommendation.

The first three Springsteen albums are always necessary, even if Manfredd Mann covered every other song in a smooth pop rock fashion. Expansive, horny, horn-y, and stream of consciousness lyrically(sometimes)!

I also hear that this Beatles combo has put out some very nice platters.

I hope this was helpful.
