M83-Skin of the Night

Mmmmmmm83's latest album is one of my favorites from this past year. Many a music critics have heaped lofty praise on the fine accomplishment from the french wonder boy (and gang), and I suppose I will pile on another 'at-a-boy'.

The song to be praised is the third track on the album: 'Skin of the Night'. This modern day, Mosaic-generation 'Roxanne', is heartfelt, haunting, and sensual. Unlike The Polices' hit track 'Roxanne', the author investigates the temptation of the "Queens" intricate being and sexuality vs. encouraging her to change her actions. I love the line: 'miles of veins fan out like a road map'. It paints a very raw image of a sleek but frail figure. The lyrics, accompanied by the wonderful M83 synth-work, tribal-style electronic beats and beautiful angelic voice, ice this 80's style cake.

I feel this song is a great investigation of how minds/bodies deal with temptation and allure... or maybe I am completely missing the point and the song is about his sister Patty-Sue who likes moths and goes by the code name: 'Queen of the Night'....

Dude... i don't know what my problem is. I suck at life when it comes to posting these songs ha. I will fiddle with it again tonight. I had it working earlier (before I wrote the entry) but must have messed it up.

The 'mosaic generation' is seemingly what the professionals are dubbing our generation. There was gen X., gen Y., and we are 'The mosaics'. I don't know who decides these things ha ha, probably some mythical being like Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.... apparently it has been determined, in part, due to our vast interest and care in different cultures, arts, entertainment, and our openess towards change

welp... apparently I was a little bit off in our 'generational analysis'. And it seems this phrase was coined by the 'Barna Group'... so i don't know if this is just a christianese thing or if it holds more water then that...also I guess Gen. Y is the same as Mosiac... man I am dropping 'the ball' left and right here ha

below, from wikapedia... so how accurate is that too? ha

The Mosaic Generation is a term used to describe those born between 1984 and 2002. The term was coined by Christian author George Barna and is mainly used within Evangelical Christian circles-- most sources refer to this generation by the name "Generation Y" or "iGeneration".

According to Barna, this generation is "very mosaic in every aspect of their life." He continues,"There's no attribute that really dominates like you might have seen with prior generations." Barna also describes this group as "comfortable with contradiction", "post-modern" and exhibiting "non-linear" thinking.
