Never Give You Up - Raphael Saadiq Featuring Stevie Wonder and CJ

Woe is me... I guess. I made the mistake of doing my research on an artist after listening to his/her/their album, but really, I guess I am glad I made this mistake. Had I first investigated Raphael Saadiq's, The Way I See It, I would have found that he is up for a grammy nomination...errrr...and was named by the editors of itunes the 'artist/album' of the year....errrrr... Both of these things would have released the 'anti'-endorphins in my brain and I would have probably used his disc for a coaster for my frosty brews. However, I am happy I didn't know about his "fame" before listening to this album (I think we all need this sometimes when listening/researching music).
The Way I See It, is wonderful motown/soul created like it was fresh out of the sixties-seventies. It makes you want to grab your 'baby girl' (or boy... if you swing that way) and go dance in the sunshine, or get all dolled up and go see your favorite soul singer at the smokey bar in your neighborhood while you sip on hennesy. It is definitely a lot to handle for a silly little white-boy like me, but it makes me wish that I had just a little bit of 'soul power' running through these veins. The album, as a whole, is enjoyable but not amazing. It is not a 'must buy', or a 'must have', but if you are searching for a little nugget of the past, or desire to hear some of that old joyful soul music, then snag a copy of this artwork.
The song I selected 'Never Give You Up' is a classic love song about the girl he loves (at the time, ha) and is accompanied by Stevie Wonder and CJ. CJ? I know no CJ, but I do dig on Stevie Wonder. He "drops" a sweet harmonica solo about half way through the song, and you can also hear some of his savory harmonies throughout Raphael's choruses. It is a great love song for all us boys and girls, and it makes you want to reiterate Raphael's words of 'your love is so damn divine' to that baby-fresh-love in your life (whomever that currently is, or who it may be some day).

Soul Power! Peace i'm out

that Saadiq record is pretty great. and to be honest, this year's grammy nominations are some of the best in recent memory. i mean, it's still the grammys, but wow they did a not half bad job.

Yeah man. I was reading some of the list (grammy) today and I was surprised. All in all though, I always get a good chuckle when they advertise it as 'the most important night in music' on t.v. commercials ha ha. Saadiq drops some serious, fresh tones. I am always impressed by someone who can recreate a sound to the point that it still sounds like it is from a specific musical era. I am a whitey, but I love me some soul music ha
