Tom Waits - Alice

I remember distinctly the first time I heard Tom Waits beautiful, raspy voice. During the brief period Tom Waits put out a couple records on Epitaph, he ended up on the the epic punk compilation, Punk-o-Rama Volume 4.

"What the hell is this? It doesn't even sound anything like punk!"

Ah, but his magical voice eventually made its way back into my soul. Much more than a cookie monster sound-a-like (listen to Everything You Can Think Of), every new record by Waits astounds me at just how diverse and unique of a sound he's created.

On a blistering cold day such as today, it feels natural to sip your whiskey, hang your head, and reminisce of Alice...

i always thought "Alice" should have been used in a David Lynch movie. let's face it - Tom Waits and David Lynch go together like milk and cookies (dark, psychological milk and experimental hobo cookies), but "Alice" could have been a main title theme.

Waits has always intrigued me, brings me back to memories of riding the train through Moscow, progressively listening to his deepening charm.
